Trash the dress???

I realize that I am a little out of touch with the world since we moved to a small town in the Midwest, but must I face this reality so often? My teen daughter brought home a list of outfits that she will need for a photography session. At the top of the list-"Trash the Dress". What???
My daughter acts like I am an alien that was just let off my spaceship here. She informs me that the she will need to bring a formal dress so she can "trash it". The photographer will have her in a mossy pond up to her waist IN THE DRESS. I swear the universe is testing me on this one. First ruining an expensive dress and second A MOSSY POND. Now that I think about it maybe her brother could be swimming in the background with his turtle friends...

  1. What? Here's what I suggest, not that you asked. Buy her a fancy top - since she will be in the water up to her waist, she can just wear swim bottons and no one will know it is not a dress!

  4. Sounds like a photographer who has no appreciation for the family's finances. So, what did you say?

  5. I don't get it ... and I know what "trash the dress is." It's when, after a wedding, the bride goes out in her wedding dress and takes a bunch of cool artsy photos, without worrying about trashing the dress, because she'll never wear the dress again. A photo of you in a pond in your wedding dress is a cooler option that vacuum sealing the thing and putting it under your bed until you get divorced. But buying the dress only to trash it? Dumb.

  6. My daughter ended up going through her old dress up box and finding a beauty :) A long time ago I used to pick up old prom dresses at a thrift ship in Cincy for her and her friends to play dress up in.

  7. Ha ha, love this post. I too, think that's a bit ridiculous to buy a dress only to trash it. Does she have any old dresses she'll never wear again?
